Dr. Mariela Vega brings a warm, down-to-earth nature and strong cultural awareness to her practice as the CEO and founder of M. Vega Psychology Consultants Inc. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Vega has over 15 years of experience, with nine years in private practice. She is very respected in her field and has an extensive background in therapy and psychological evaluations.
Dr. Vega works with all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. She uses culturally sensitive evidence-based interventions to help her patients overcome difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and trauma to improve their well-being.
She also specializes in immigrant evaluations. Dr. Vega has completed extensive training in this area, including immigration evaluation training with Dr. Mariela Shibley from the San Diego Psychological Association. Psychological evaluations provided by M.Vega Psychology Consultants include U Visas, T Visas, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Asylum, Cancellation of Removal, Extreme Hardship Waivers, Medical Certification for Disability Exemptions (N-648).
Dr. Vega was born and raised in Los Angeles, but her entire family is from Mexico. As a child, she remembers the struggles that her family endured. Many immigrants experience severe emotional distress and harassment before their arrival, only to face immigrant court and possible deportation through no fault of their own. There are special considerations when Dr. Vega conducts cross-cultural forensic evaluations based on her expertise in multicultural psychology and forensic assessments.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Vega earned her doctorate and master’s degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University, and her bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish from University of California, Santa Barbara. She also studied abroad at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain.
She is also the recipient of many awards and honors, including the U.S. Department of Labor Recognition of Excellence Award for the Transitional Age Program and a Commendation from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the U.S. Department of Labor Award.
Dr. Vega is a current member of the California Psychological Association (CPA) the American Psychological Association (APA). When she isn’t busy working, she loves to spend time with her family and friends. Her hobbies include exercise, hiking, and travel.
